Distinctives |
Now, our future ministers and church leaders can stay here in our area, serve our churches, and receive ministerial and leadership preparation, while strengthening the churches where they serve. Many distinctives set the John Leland Center for Theological Studies apart, but two are of particular importance: our diversity and our commitment to the local church.
Located in the Washington D.C. area, we enjoy a diversity of peoples, churches and organizations found only in a few other places. In a sense, the world comes to us both in terms of our student population and in our ability to attract globally minded faculty. A second distinctive of the Leland Center is our commitment to the needs of our local churches. For too long students called by God into ministry have had to leave our churches and go to other regions of the country for theological education. Now, our future ministers and church leaders can stay here in our area, serve our churches, and receive ministerial and leadership preparation, while strengthening the churches where they serve. We believe that our students, as they prepare for ministry and leadership, should receive a well-rounded program that keeps the challenges and needs of local churches at the forefront of their education. At the Leland Center we place great value on Teacher Practitioners, who are well qualified academically, but also serve as pastors, educators or church leaders in our local communities. This emphasis permits us to be ever mindful of the demands of local ministry and maintain a consistent relationship with our constituent churches in Virginia.(p)703-812-4757 (f)703-812-4764 1301 N.
